February Drumming and Drum Lessons

On February 18th and 19th I did a studio recording with The Richtie West Band at Company studios in Burbank. The session was great because it was recorded to 2" analog tape live. It's been a while since I've recorded with everyone in the same room. Plus, recording to tape gives that warm, rich sound that I love. I played brushes and Hot Rods to 9 songs and got to work with an amazing cast of players. Be Hussey was the engineer and was very easy to work with. He had a vintage set of Ludwig drums that sounded great under mics. I used a Ludwig Black Beauty snare drum and a Pearl Free Floating Maple Snare that sounded amazing with brushes (note to self!)

I am still giving drum lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays. My students are currently Max Berolzheimer and Jesse Phelps. Both students are coming along fine. I teach Max at his father's studio and Jesse at his house. The fact that they are both sight reading drum charts is pretty amazing. I forget that they are both 16!

Tomorrow night Sunday March 11th I am playing with Bell Gardens at The Echoplex. I played there once before with The Digs. I am looking forward to the show. If you are reading this we play at 9pm.
