Drum happenings in November and a little bit of December

Hello all, here is a run down of what I did in November and some of December on drums.

Nov. 15 Returned from tour with Drunk on Crutches
Nov. 19 More recording with The Abe Lincoln Story
Nov. 28 Started rehearsals with Bell Gardens
Nov. 29 Played a show with Y at 3 (of) Clubs in Hollywood
Nov. 30 Played at The Old Town Pub in Pasadena with Drunk on Crutches
Dec. 1 Started Rehearsals with Laura Meyer

Tonight Dec. 6th I am playing with Laura Meyer and Eric Golding at The Silverlake Lounge at 9pm. It's Laura's first show in LA with full band and it's a show you don't want to miss.

Cool fact from my tour: When I was on tour with D.O.C I was walking around Dallas, TX in the Deep Ellum area of town and randomly ran into Mark Burgess of The Chameleons Vox, who I have worked with before. They where playing that night at Trees and he gave me a pass to see them perform. I was surprised because I had no idea they were playing. Also, I got to hang out with my friend Wanz Dover.

September Drumming

September has been a month of starting up new projects and scheduling up and coming tours and record releases for me. Bell Gardens record "A Series of Farewells" is projected to be released in the beginning of 2012, with a tour to follow. I will be hitting the road with
Drunk On Crutches in October/November 2011. Also I am recording with Laura Meyer, Red Sun Black Moon and Invitation to Love during the holiday's/new year.
Here is the link to the Kickstarter page for the The Last Two Step in Texas project by The Richie West Band that I am drumming for. Brittney Westover (The Damselles and the TC4) is putting together an amazing line-up of musicians to honor her fathers music.

Last months schedule: (remember I am not mentioning rehearsing with all other projects, just shows and when I start with a new project or studio session)

Sept. 2 Abe Lincoln Story @ Taix
Sept. 6 Abe Lincoln Story @ Harvard and Stone
Sept. 15 Started rehearsals with The Richie West Band
Sept. 23 Finished recording drum tracks for ALS record

See you on the road!

April and May drumming

It's been two month's now that I haven't written in the blog because well, there hasn't been alot going on, which is sort of a lie HAHAHA. Not much moonlighting on drums but LOTS of Bell Gardens going's on.

Lesson's have been going well. Also I played on some more Lenny Pop's songs and some commercial stuff coming up soon.

I played a show with The Sara Radle Band at The Satellite (formerly Spaceland) opening for Walking Sleeps residency on April 18th

Played with Bell Gardens at The Echo opening for Dirty Beaches on April 28th

I have been doing a lot of demo recording with Bell Garden too. At practice space's, home studio's and out in the desert in 29 Palms (fun weekend).

Also coming up soon Bell Gardens is playing at the Satellite with Damon and Naomi and Amor de Dias on June 4th, should be a good one.

Stay tuned: Alot more sessions coming up this Summer! Me coming to a club near you! :)

P.S. I was at The Silverlake Jubilee this past weekend and about 6 or 7 people asked me if I was playing or they had just seen me play! Wow, I get around. I think people thought I was the drummer in the Black Apples. I think.

Drum happenings in January 2011 / Bell Gardens at SXSW

Well, the potential for 2011 is definitely showing. Some cool things are brewing. I'm ready to get to work! So here is what happened in January:

My drum tech prayers where answered from none other than the awesome drummer Daniel Goldblatt! This guy knows his gear and is a great drummer. Having a drum tech in the studio will help out immensely!

Drum lessons are shaping up. I am now doing them at Bedrock Rehearsals in Echo Park. Contact me for rates and times. charliewoodburn@gmail.com

Bell Gardens has been accepted to SXSW this year. We will be playing our showcase in addition to several other shows and parties. I will post as the dates become available. Until then we are rehearsing and recording. Man, it will be good to go back for a visit. I miss Austin.

November AND December to 2011

Happy New Year to all! So I am going to go back and recap Nov. and Dec. then talk about the future.

In November I started giving drum lessons again. Only one student right now but I want pick up more in the new year on the same day, Thursday. So if you are looking for lessons contact me at charliewoodburn@gmail.com and Thursday is lesson day.

Did a lot of rehearsals with Bell Gardens.

Went into Glenwood Studio's in Burbank with Sunburst's to record one song. We also played a show at La Cita in Downtown L.A.

Also, I was honored to be asked to fill in on drums by the band Wait.Think.Fast. but there drummer was able to do the gig after all.

In December, as you may or may not know in LA the music biz slows down. But I did get to do one thing that was pretty cool. A producer friend of mine asked me to do a drum tech gig. I got to drum tech for Dennis Chambers while he was playing with Mike Stern at Catalina Jazz club on Sunset. That was alot of fun and I learned alot too.

So....The New Year! 2011! Well my resolution is to get my own drum tech! I've been hauling around my own drums for 13 years in L.A. If there are any tech's that are interested let me know!

Oh yeah, and to get charliewoodburn.com off the ground. Come on 2011!
